Chapter 5
WONDERS IN THE EARTH
IN THIS CHAPTER I WILL BE DISCUSSING GODâS PERFORMANCE AND display of signs and wonders within the earth. There are two foundational verses hereââI will show wonders in the heavens and on the earthâ (Joel 2:30), and, âHe works signs and wonders in heaven and on earthâ (Dan. 6:27). While the previous chapter was dealing strictly with atmospheric wondersâor, as the Bible calls them, âwonders in the heavensââthis chapter will be going over many specific ways that God performs âwonders in the earth.â
Biblical Accounts of Wonders in the Earth
Where do you begin when it comes to Godâs display of wonders in the earth? There are so many throughout all of Scripture that you could pretty much devote a whole book to their exclusive workings alone. David could not have said it any better: âMany, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have doneâ (Ps. 40:5 NKJV). You can look from the Old Testament all the way through the New and one common thread you are certain to find is the glorious wonders of God being displayed throughout the earth from generation to generation.
Wonders of Moses
The wonders in the earth performed by God through Moses were obviously paramount in all of history. Among many others, you have the staff turning into a snake, the leprous transformation of his hand, display of wondrous plagues, turning water into blood, parting the Red Sea, striking the rock that produced water, his face shining with light, and the Israelitesâ clothes/shoes never wearing out after 40 years in the wilderness. The list just keeps on going.
Fleece of Gideon
There was also the wonder God performed when Gideon needed confirmation of his calling.
Then Gideon said to God, âIf you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said, behold, I am laying a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said.â And it was so. When he rose early next morning and squeezed the fleece, he wrung enough dew from the fleece to fill a bowl with water. Then Gideon said to God, âLet not your anger burn against me; let me speak just once more. Please let me test just once more with the fleece. Please let it be dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground let there be dew.â And God did so that night; and it was dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground there was dew (Judges 6:36-40).
I love this sign and wonder that God performed, bringing certainty and confirmation to that which Gideon had already been told. One thing about God is that He is so loving, compassionate, slow to anger, and full of mercy that He will gladly confirm what He has told you time and time again if that is what it takes for you to walk out the highest destiny of what He has called you to do.
